Didn’t bring enough tape this first night, so the last hour or so is from my friend John Wenzel’s buddy from Michigan who was attending Marquette University
...
at the time and fortunately brought enough tape (saved tape by editing between songs). So between both sources we have a complete show due to the fine editing work of Charlie Miller.
Remember, tapes of these shows were not thought to exist by the earlier editions of Dead Base. My copy of VII still had no set lists.
Will the soundboards ever turn up you ask? The rumor years ago was that the master reels were stolen during one of the shows during this midwest tour. A segment of set two from the next night exists from a cassette apparently made for Phil’s personal use, and is posted on the page for the 24th.
BASF 120 minute tapes were used for the masters (one side was already used up from concert by a different band- Tull, if I remember correctly)
Sony TC 124

Nothing wrong with this! Despite the cloudy sound, the show and the recording's depth and warmth make a great listen.

Thanks for this hometown show.
I believe the patch source on this recording is from the same source as used on the other copy of this show on the archive, ... the "cotsman" master, but the patch source here sounds to be of a lower generation, to my ears much clearer.
